The Brief

We were appointed by Kirklees Council to carry out remodelling works at Red Laithes Court, Ravensthorpe, an NHS day centre providing day services for people with learning disabilities. The project involved the renovation of several rooms, installation of Changing Places and Doc M accessible bathrooms, specialist patient hoists, and general refurbishment.

Our Approach

Our approach focused on collaboration, careful planning, and maintaining a safe, operational environment throughout.

We began with a pre-start meeting with Kirklees Council and centre staff to understand the needs of both service users and staff. This informed a phased programme designed to minimise disruption within the live facility.

To deliver compliant and functional spaces, we carried out internal and structural alterations, including removing and modifying load-bearing elements to form new Doc M compliant layouts. All works were carefully planned and phased to minimise disruption, ensuring that key areas of the building remained accessible and operational at all times.

A key aspect of the project involved the integration of specialist equipment. We liaised closely with specialist contractors to coordinate the installation of patient hoists. This required precise setting out, structural considerations, and close coordination with mechanical and electrical works to ensure seamless integration into the refurbished spaces.

We also delivered high-quality, fully compliant hygiene facilities, including a dedicated Changing Places space and accessible bathrooms. These installations involved coordinated plumbing, electrical, and finishing works, alongside the use of robust, hygienic materials such as PVC wall cladding and slip-resistant vinyl flooring.

Throughout the project, we maintained clear and consistent communication with all stakeholders, allowing us to respond quickly to any challenges and ensure that the works progressed efficiently, safely, and in line with the client’s expectations.
