The Brief

In 2024, JH Joinery and Construction Ltd. appointed by our client as principal contractor for a high-end extension to their listed Georgian home. The brief was ambitious: undertake significant groundworks to unlock substantial new space for a home gym, sauna, ensuite bedroom, and a large garage—all designed to integrate seamlessly with the existing property.

Detailed architectural drawings were produced by the award-winning team at Fibre Architects. Building on their previous design for a structural glass extension to the same property, a scheme was developed incorporating a striking external cladding tile system, slimline aluminium windows and doors, and carefully crafted stonework with frameless glass balustrading, delivering a contemporary and refined finish.

To help the client fully visualise the project, 3D video walkthroughs were developed, bringing the interior concept to life. These showcased high-quality fitted furniture and a thoughtfully designed layout including two ensuite bedrooms, a gym, sauna, and a dedicated cinema room.

JH Bespoke Joinery Products were commissioned to develop these concept designs into detailed joinery packages and deliver the finished bespoke furniture.

Our Approach

The expertise of our team at JH Bespoke Joinery Products was central to the successful delivery of this project. From the outset, we worked closely with the client to fully understand their vision for the new spaces, ensuring that every element — from layout to materials — reflected the high-quality finish they wanted to achieve throughout the extension.

The sauna space combines the warm tones of Okoume timber with a high-quality microcement finish to the surrounding walls and floor, creating a clean, seamless backdrop that highlights the natural character of the timber while maintaining a contemporary, spa-like feel.

A bespoke steel spiral staircase was designed and installed to connect the sauna area with the gym below. With custom microcement treads and a black powder-coated steel frame, it forms a sculptural centrepiece that complements the darker tones of the gym space.

The gym itself was designed with both performance and atmosphere in mind. The walls feature oak acoustic panelling, which introduces warmth and texture while also improving the acoustics of the space. Paired with custom LED strip lighting and mirrored panels, the result was a sleek and contemporary training environment.

To complement the lifestyle focus of the extension, we also designed, manufactured, and installed a bespoke refreshment unit incorporating a sparkling water tap and marble detailing. The unit was crafted from textured Gabon Ebony panels by Havwoods, selected to echo the black tones of the staircase and maintain a cohesive design across the space.
